'America's Team': All Dallas Cowboys, owner take a knee during Monday's NFL game — but there's more

The entire Dallas Cowboys football team — including owner Jerry Jones and coach Jason Garrett — kneeled briefly prior to the singing of the national anthem during Monday night's away game against the Arizona Cardinals in an apparent show of solidarity.

However, when "The Star-Spangled Banner" began playing, Jones and the team stood proudly and linked arms across the field out of respect for the national anthem.

How did it all go down?

When the team took a knee, the crowd gathered at the University of Phoenix Stadium began to boo.

However, when the Cowboys stood and linked arms, the crowd seemed satiated and began to quiet.

The Cowboys weren't the only ones in the stadium standing and linking arms during the national anthem, which was sung by former "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks.

The Arizona Cardinals also showed their sideline solidarity by standing, linking arms, and some players and staff even sang along with Sparks during her rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

The Cowboys beat the Cardinals 28-17.

Jones has been outspoken about players who take a knee.

Jones previously criticized players who took a knee during the anthem. Last week, Jones told FOX Business' Cheryl Casone that there's a time to express personal opinions, and doing so while recognizing the flag isn't it.

"I do not think the place to express yourself in society is as we recognize the American flag," he said. "So that’s not the place to do anything other than honor the flag and everybody that’s given up a little bit for it."

At the time of this posting, Jones had not condemned President Donald Trump's criticisms about NFL players who kneel during the national anthem.

What did Trump say about the Cowboys' actions?

Trump on Tuesday addressed the actions taken during the Cowboys game, and expressed thoughts that the team made "big progress" by standing for the anthem.

He wrote, "Ratings for NFL football are way down except before game starts, when people tune in to see whether or not our country will be disrespected!"

"The booing at the NFL football game last night, when the entire Dallas team dropped to its knees, was loudest I have ever heard. Great anger," he added.

Trump concluded, "But while Dallas dropped to its knees as a team, they all stood up for our National Anthem. Big progress being made-we all love our country!"

This is the fifth consecutive day that Trump has decried national anthem protests at NFL games.
