You’ll Never Guess What’s Killing Cars Parked at Denver’s Airport

(Image: CBS Local)
Travelers leaving their cars in the Denver International Airport parking lots might return to find their vehicles damaged by an unlikely culprit — bunnies.
CBS Local reported airport shuttle driver Michelle Anderson saying she saw dozens each morning hopping under cars to huddle where it’s warm. From there they’re known to chew through the ignition cables, causing hundreds to thousands of dollars worth of damage.
CBS Local reported that repairs are the responsibility of the vehicle owner and that most insurance companies don’t cover rabbit damage.
The bunny problem is bad enough that the airport is taking action against them. Measures include new fences to prevent burrowing and perches for hawks and eagles, which would prey upon the rabbits. CBS Local reported that some drivers are using coyote or fox urine on their wires as a deterrent. It also stated that the USDA Wildlife Service removes at least 100 bunnies from the airport area each month.

I lived in Colorado for 11 years & it’s a beautiful place, but don’t kid yourself into believing it’s Nirvana! Denver suburbs were not divine when it came to the cost of a modest home & utilites (water & heat were expensive.) Colorado income taxes were high. Driving on ice & snow were challenging (too many idiots believed a 4-wheel-drive vehicle meant you could safely drive 70 mph on a frozen freeway.) The Valley Highway (I-25) was a parking lot both ways most days. I was twice robbed at gunpoint in decent parts of the Denver area.
In 1990 I moved to what you call a hell-hole. In Texas, I found a better-paying job, a 3400 sq ft home (same price my 1900 sq ft home cost in Littleton), & swimming pools that can be used unheated for 8 months a year. I found good schools for my kids, cheaper gasoline for my car, fewer burnt-out hippies & Liberal politicians, & at least as much happiness for me and my family as we had in Colorado.
I pay NO state income tax, rarely drive on ice, & enjoy an 8-lane freeway during my 27-mile, 40-minute commute. The weather is hot in the summer & fantastic in the winter! The neighbors seem friendlier & there are no rabbits feeding on cars at airports in Texas. (DIA – now that’s a hell-hole!)
I took extra money Texas has helped put in my pocket & bought a vacation home in the southern mountains of Colorado!
Enjoy those pot parties, elitist Liberals, learn definition of hell-hole, & Texas Wine! Colorado wines are inferior – too cold for

Posted on February 18, 2013 at 10:31amWe’ve had bunnies living all around and under us for over 30 years and not once has a rabbit chewed any wiring on any one of the pieces of equipment or vehicles. Rats, mice and squirrels do, but not the rabbits. We do have pictures of momma bunnies killing and eating snakes getting to close to their nests, but not ever messing with electrical stuff. We let the wild cottontails nest in with the chickens because they will kill snakes trying to get eggs and chicks and they’ve never gone after the brooder heater or light wiring. Not sure I believe it’s the bunnies doing the damage.

Hey, a lot of us here share your sentiment toward the “filler” stories, but insulting a publication’s readership isn’t exactly a productive means of influencing them. Short of some form of clairvoyance, how do you know that readers here aren’t visiting other sources?
If you really want to steer people toward something better, please, by all means. (Honestly: I mean this in complete sincerity and am not employing sarcasm) Are you serious when you suggest CNN or HuffPo? Hypothetically, one could glean _something_ from the MSM, but the average reader would have to visit myriad MSM publications every day, just to filter out a mere few morsels of actual, verifiable news. It’s like the old cartoon of a giant timber being cut down to a toothpick, the scrap wood discarded. To me, even if I had the time it’s simply not worth the effort, so I visit several news aggregator sites. Granted, my solution isn’t ideal, and quite honestly, I would love to hear of a real source of news that constitutes something “easy,” but it’s just not happening anymore and hasn’t been happening for a long time. I’ll concede that the Blaze seems to be slacking a bit on the actual content as of late, so what’s your constructive solution?

Posted on February 18, 2013 at 3:59pmIcan,
I think that the liberal Betsy Morgan should be fired from the presidency of TheBlaze and a conservative that is a follower of Beck, his teachings, values, and knowledge base should be put in place.
It is so painful for me, a Beck follower to see TheBlaze reduced to being a traffic driver for companies like Saturday Night Live & MSNBC.
Beck started TheBlaze to report what the MSM refused to. Under Betsy TheBlaze refuses to report hardly any news.
As I stated earlier Glenn has lost control of his product and it is now a sister publication of the Huffington Post. Unfortunately it is the product most people read first to get acquainted with Beck. If you only knew Beck from reading TheBlaze you would think he is not very well informed person.
The liberals are in control of the main gate to the Glenn Beck empire, and sure are making him look like a low information fool.

Posted on February 18, 2013 at 10:03amRabbits are legomorphs..not rodents..but where the bunnies are going..it is most likely the rats are going..the bunnies could chew the wires..but rats and mice most definitely will..the way to keep them form under your car’s hood is by placing something that smells displeasing to them…like strong smelling dryer sheets..or mint..or mothballs..
