House Freedom Caucus co-founder Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, has had a busy 24 hours. Not only did he join other House conservatives in filing articles of impeachment against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, he announced his bid for speaker of the House.
But in the whirlwind that has some deep-state apologists triggered and conservatives on the edges of their seats, we’re naturally seeing a fair amount of lying attacks from the loyal #resistance blue-check brigade.
The lie in this case is about the allegations that Jordan turned a blind eye to sexual abuse while an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State almost 30 years ago. Those on the targeting task force include left-leaning writers, Hollywood types, Hillary Clinton alums, and even one Democratic candidate for Congress.

See what the problem is here? They take the accusations as fact without really delving into the details of the situation. Never mind that the credibility of Jordan’s initial accusers was dubious at best, given the fact that one went to jail for lying to people before and another has a long, twisted history of confrontations with the Jordan family. Never mind that the law firm behind the “independent” investigation is the same one that paid for the infamous Steele dossier.
Never mind that those accusing Jordan have nothing to lose and everything to gain by doing so, especially given Michigan State’s $500 million payout to victims of Larry Nassar. Oh, and never mind that the Republican leaders who would arguably have the most to gain from assassinating Jordan’s political career have evaluated the facts and chosen to stand by him.
See, in my line of work, if you knowingly write something unproven about someone -- even a politician you don’t like -- with disregard for the truth, you kill your own credibility and might end up staring down the business end of a termination notice at work.
… or at least how that’s supposed to be.
Now, if you can look at all of these details surrounding the issue and still believe the allegations should disqualify Jordan from being speaker, there’s a way to say that without disregarding the facts. Here’s an example.
But hey, since when does anyone need proof to get away with smearing a conservative these days?
