'Impeach Rosenstein': GOP lawmakers call out deputy AG on 'Hannity'

Three Republican lawmakers appeared on Fox News with Sean Hannity Wednesday to air their grievances against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and discuss a report that he threatened to subpoena records from lawmakers and staff.

Reps. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., and Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., all gave their takes on Rosenstein's reported threat, and all three urged Congress to take action to defend the institution.

"If in fact this did take place, which I think it did, this is the executive branch threatening staffers of a standing House committee trying to do their job and get answers for the American people. This is as wrong as it gets, and the fundamental question it raises is, 'Will the speaker of this House stand up and defend House Intelligence Committee staffers?'" Jordan said.

He added that the best way for Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., to stand up to the DOJ would be to bring up the resolution introduced by Jordan and Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., to demand that Rosenstein fully and promptly cooperate with the Intelligence Committee's document requests.

DeSantis said the reports of Rosenstein's conduct, if true, are "disqualifying." "He cannot be the deputy attorney general if he's threatening people who work in Congress simply because we're doing our job to try to get answers for the American people. And the arrogance of Rosenstein for months and months to stonewall and stonewall nonstop even basic answers, to redact information, it's just gotten to the boiling point. We in Congress need to act."

Gaetz went further, calling Rosenstein "intractably conflicted" in the investigation and demanding his impeachment.

"I'm sick and tired of Rod Rosenstein's games. I think we need to impeach Rosenstein. He won't turn over documents. He signed a FISA renewal against the president of the United States, and frankly if we don't step up and defend our institution, then what good is the Congress anyway?"
