Kavanaugh accuser's classmate: What? You mean I have to defend my baseless assertions?

A former classmate of Christine Blasey Ford claimed to have knowledge of a sexual assault Ford alleges Kavanaugh committed 36 years ago, and now she's backtracking from her claim because she had "no idea" she would have to defend it.

Cristina King Miranda went to the same high school as Ford, who alleges that Kavanaugh drunkenly groped her and attempted to remove her clothes at a party in the 1980s when she was 15. In a now-deleted Facebook post, Miranda claimed that "The incident did happen" and that "many of us heard about it in school."

But Thursday, Miranda contradicted her earlier claim, telling NPR, "That it happened or not, I have no idea."

"I can't say that it did or didn't," Miranda said.

This is how she explains her turnaround:

"In my [Facebook] post, I was empowered and I was sure it probably did [happen]," Miranda told NPR. "I had no idea that I would now have to go to the specifics and defend it before 50 cable channels and have my face spread all over MSNBC news and Twitter."

The media took Miranda's claim seriously, as evidence that the alleged sexual assault took place. The Senate Judiciary Committee reached out to Miranda, and NPR reports she did not expect this and will refuse to be interviewed if asked.

This is vile. A person cannot claim a crime happened and then turn around and say she doesn't know if it happened when pressured for details.

There's a word for someone who fabricates a claim and refuses to defend it because it's not true: liar.
