Lindsey Graham will shut down the government for illegal aliens, but not for Americans

Senator Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., is reportedly prepared to shut down the government if he can't get the Senate to vote on his proposal to grant amnesty to at least three million illegal immigrants.

Roll Call reports that Sen. Graham is one of two Republicans, along with Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., who intends to vote against the proposed short-term continuing resolution.

The government will shut down Friday if Congress fails to pass a spending measure. Democrats are refusing to support a spending bill that does not address the 800,000 or so Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program recipients — illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and were unconstitutionally granted legal status by President Obama in 2012 — and with 60 votes needed to keep the government open, every Republican in the GOP's slim 51-vote majority is vital.

According to Roll Call, Graham is withholding his vote for the CR as he "continues to push for a vote on his proposal to address the pending expiration of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program" — lining up with Democrats to hold up the vote over amnesty for DACA recipients.

Graham's proposal, which was summarily rejected by President Trump as the "opposite of what [Trump] campaigned for," would create a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients; would extend DACA to cover all "Dreamers," not just those covered by Obama's executive order; would approve funding for a border wall studies; does not eliminate the diversity visa lottery; does not end chain migration; and extends amnesty to the parents of these so-called "Dreamers." There are an estimated 3.6 million "Dreamers," and under Graham's plan to grant their parents legal status as well, the door is opened for mass amnesty for the vast majority of the estimated 12.5 million illegal aliens in the United States.

Lindsey Graham's "bipartisan" deal is disgraceful. It is yet another betrayal. Once again, Lindsey "Grahamnesty" has lined up behind the radical open-borders zealots in the Democratic Party to nullify Donald Trump's campaign promises and sell out the American people. This time he is willing to risk a government shutdown to do it.

This is a far cry from the Lindsey Graham of yesteryear, who once said, "Shutting down the government, I think it hurts our overall cause and I don't mind telling people that. If I’m going to be a good nominee and a good president, I’ve got to tell you what I believe.” Actually, it's a far cry from the Lindsey Graham of a few days ago, who told the New York Times, "To believe that you can successfully blame Democrats for a shutdown over the DACA debate is naive.”

Sen. Graham's sudden about-face is astounding. Consider that Graham has excoriated his Republican colleagues for their past efforts to leverage a government shutdown to defund Obamacare, defund Planned Parenthood, or rein in the federal government's unsustainable, dangerous levels of deficit spending. Of Ted Cruz's effort to defund Obamacare, which led to a 16-day government shutdown in 2013, Graham said Cruz "threw the Republican Party under the bus."

But now Lindsey Graham is willing to do the same thing, and it's not for any conservative cause.

Lindsey Graham wasn't willing to shut down the government to save the health insurance premiums of American citizens. He won't bother to shut down the government to save the lives of unborn Americans in the womb.

He cares not for the debt burden heaped upon rising generations of Americans and won't shut down the government to demand an end our fiscal insanity. No, Sen. Graham stands by and wags his finger at conservatives as health insurance premiums skyrocket, as Planned Parenthood rips apart little babies with government aid, and as the debt eclipses the American economy and consigns future generations to serfdom.

But Lindsey Graham has the gall to fight with Democrats to shut down the government for the sake of illegal aliens who have broken American laws and undermined American sovereignty.

Lindsey Graham, the America-last senator, should be ashamed of himself.
