Major player in Clinton Uranium One scandal finds his way into ‘Trump-Russia’

Late Wednesday, a whistleblower and former FBI informant connected to the Uranium One  scandal revealed greater detail on the agreement that reportedly enriched the Clinton family and its foundation.

The informant, Douglas Campbell, explained that the Russians paid millions to APCO worldwide, a lobbying group, because it was in a “position to influence the Obama administration, and more specifically Hillary Clinton,” John Solomon of The Hill reported.

Campbell said in a closed-door hearing Wednesday that Russian officials “told me at various times that they expected APCO to apply a portion of the $3 million annual lobbying fee it was receiving from the Russians to provide in-kind support for the Clinton[s’] Global Initiative.” For its part, APCO has denied the accusations, according to Fox News.

“APCO was expected to give assistance free of charge to the Clinton Global Initiative as part of their effort to create a favorable environment to ensure the Obama administration made affirmative decisions on everything from Uranium One to the U.S.-Russia Civilian Nuclear Cooperation agreement,” the report adds.

At the time, the senior vice president of APCO was Jonathan Winer. Once a registered foreign agent and before that a longtime Senate staffer under John Kerry, Winer has seamlessly moved his career back and forth between the foreign lobbying world and official government work. He’s a man who continues to surface in the news as a major player in the development of the Trump-Russia dossier, which also reportedly originated with Russian sources.

Multiple outlets have reported that Winer served as the bridge between dossier author Christopher Steele, two longtime Hillary Clinton operatives, and the Obama State Department.

Winer is very well connected to the major players who developed the Trump-Russia dossier. Earlier this week, Conservative Review found evidence that he recently attended an exclusive Miami conference in April with the heads of Fusion GPS, the firm that contracted with Steele (with Clinton and DNC funding) to develop the dossier.

Other media reporting describes Winer as a “friend of Steele’s,” and it appears as if the two have crossed paths a lot over the years.

When he was the suspected middleman for the Trump-Russia dossier, Winer worked as President Obama’s deputy assistant secretary of state for international law enforcement and as the U.S. special envoy for Libya.

The Libya portfolio places Winer in the same line of work as longtime Clinton operatives Cody Shearer and Sid Blumenthal, who are also reported as important drivers for the Trump-Russia dossier. When Clinton was serving as secretary of state, Shearer and Blumenthal ran an off-the-books private intelligence operation for Clinton, heavily focused on Libya matters.

Soon, we will likely learn much more about the role Winer played in the Trump-Russia dossier affair. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes is reportedly focused on exploring Winer’s connections to the formulation of the controversial document

It should not be forgotten that the Washington swamp is famously incestuous. However, it is quite a coincidence that the same person played a significant role in both the Trump-Russia dossier scandal and the Uranium One deal.
