Miami Marlins honor Parkland shooting hero officer

At Monday night’s baseball game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Miami Marlins honored Coconut Creek Police Officer Michael Leonard, who tracked down the gunman in the Parkland school shooting, PoliceOne reported.

Leonard, who found and arrested Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooter Nikolas Cruz, was recognized as a part of the Marlins’ Salute & Serve Mondays, “when the team honors an active duty military member, a police officer and a first responder during an on-field ceremony,” the report said.

Leonard has previously responded to being called a “hero”: “It’s not about me, it’s about my brothers and sisters in law enforcement, fire rescue, first responders. We all had a role that day. We continue to have a role, keeping our streets and cities safe.”
