The following is an excerpt from Blaze Media’s Capitol Hill Brief email newsletter:
In the face of a primary challenge back in his Kentucky congressional district, House Republican Thomas Massie is touting some high-profile conservative endorsements in his corner.
In an announcement issued last night, Massie’s congressional campaign put out a lengthy list of endorsements from members of Congress as well as several state and local officials in Kentucky. That list includes Senators Rand Paul and Mike Lee, along with House Freedom Caucus members Mark Meadows, Jim Jordan, Andy Biggs, and Louie Gohmert.
“I am honored to be supported by these men and women, individuals who are standing beside me so I can continue to fight for limited government, life, secure borders, and an America First foreign policy,” Massie said of the endorsements. “With their support I am confident I will return to Washington to continue to drain the swamp.”
On Friday, one of the attorneys in the Covington Catholic case, Todd McMurtry, announced that he would challenge Massie in a primary contest, saying that his reason for doing so “is to support President Trump” and criticizing the congressman’s voting record.
