The Left can’t help but be crazier than the president

President Donald Trump is capable of saying awful things, of embarrassing himself, of embarrassing the country. There is a reason his approval rating has dipped into the dismal 30 percent range.

And yet it is time to acknowledge that no matter how bad Trump gets, the Left continues to outdo even him.

Here are two recent examples:

First, recall how President Trump was mocked for suggesting that efforts to remove Confederate statues won’t stop with Confederates. “This week it’s Robert E. Lee. I noticed that Stonewall Jackson is coming down. I wonder is it George Washington next week and is it Thomas Jefferson the week after?” Trump said Tuesday.

The president was savaged for drawing a moral equivalency between Washington and Lee. And yet people on the Left draw the same equivalence exactly in the way Trump said they would.

Second, the Left likes to argue that President Trump’s rhetoric creates a “direct line” to acts of violence, like those committed in Charlottesville last weekend.

Now, the president has never called for someone to be murdered, unlike this Democratic state senator from Missouri who called for the assassination of President Trump this week in a now-deleted Facebook post:

The Democratic state senator, Maria Chappelle-Nadal, confessed to the message.

These leftists don’t excuse the president’s behavior when he’s wrong. But they do demonstrate that no matter how crazy the president acts, the Left will always escalate by reacting even crazier.
