On the campaign trail, then-candidate Donald Trump said that "anyone who has entered the United States illegally is subject to deportation," and those who want legal status should have to return to their home countries to apply for reentry. He promised to "immediately terminate" President Obama's illegal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals executive order, commonly known as DACA.
But he also said that illegal immigrants in America must have a path to legalization. "Give them a path. You have to make it possible for them to succeed," Trump said in 2015.
In office, the president waited nine months before taking action to phase out the unconstitutional amnesty for 800,000 or so DACA recipients. Now, confronted with a deadline to grant DACA recipients legal status or begin deportations, President Trump is proposing legislation that would grant 1.8 million illegal immigrants a pathway to American citizenship.
The Democratic Party has argued for months that something must be done for DACA recipients to give them stability and end their questionable legal status. Trump is offering this deal to Democrats in exchange for border wall funding, an end to the diversity visa lottery, and changes to our system of chain migration.
Here's how Senate Democrats are responding to Trump's offer to go beyond the 800,000 DACA recipients and grant citizenship to nearly 2 million illegal aliens:

"White nationalist wish list." A "ransom note" for a "white supremacist agenda." "Hateful."
So what is clear is that amnesty with citizenship for nearly 2 million "Dreamers" isn't good enough for the Left. They won't compromise on border security. The Democrats won't enact serious immigration reforms. For crying out loud, President Trump can offer a deal to take care of DACA "kids," grant them amnesty, make them eligible to vote, and still be called a racist and a xenophobe.
There is NO WIN for Republicans in this deal.
Enough with this crap. Kill the amnesty deal. Stop negotiating with open-borders zealots. Prioritize border security, the rule of law, and the needs of American citizens.
And when the Democrats turn up their noses at putting American citizens first — exactly like they did with the government shutdown — tell them to go to hell, take the case for border security to the American people, and kick the crap out of the radical progressive Left in the next election.
