Trump, work with conservatives, not the swamp, on RINOcare

“Twelve voices were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. No questions, now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.” ~ Animal Farm

The Republican and Democrat parties are essentially a bad unibrow with one distinction: Whereas Democrats lie in pursuit of their goals, ideology, and objectives, Republicans lie in pursuit of … the other side’s goals, ideology, and objectives.

One of the most indelible moments in recent political history, etched in the minds of voters who detest Obamacare, is when Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) declared, “we have to pass the bill so you can find out what’s in it.” Now, with a GOP that has made it clear they want to preserve Obamacare under the dastardly lie of repealing it, they have come full George Orwell circle, and are repeating the same mantra. Facts and details don’t matter. Drafting errors don’t matter. Adverse selection, insolvency, and political suicide don’t matter. Cause and effect market responses don’t matter. Yet, before the bill was pulled, Rep. Chris Collins, (R-N.Y.) an ardent proponent of amnesty, said “once we get it done, then we can really explain what’s in it.”

Thankfully, this travesty was finally pulled from the floor. But the lies and principles behind this bill, culminating with Rep. Collins literally echoing the modus operandi of Nancy Pelosi, demonstrates that we don’t have a party that represents our views.

They said we needed the House. They got it.

They said they needed the Senate. They got it.

They said once we have the presidency we’d repeal it.

The fifth sentence of Ryan’s “Better Way to Fix Health Care” declared, "Obamacare must be fully repealed so we can start over and take a new approach."

Now they look at us like we are from Mars when we actually want them to repeal it and not merely preserve it with more insolvency.

President Trump got it right when he wrote in The Art of the Deal: "You can't con people, at least not for long. ... [I]f you don't deliver the goods, people will eventually catch on."

At some point, conservatives must realize the Republican Party doesn’t share our values, not just on health care but on almost any issue. This, at its core, is why people desperately wanted a dramatic change and nominated Donald Trump. But if Trump is merely going to allow the swamp to continue dictating the terms, processes, and policies, and if he continues hiring liberal personnel in the White House and in the departments, nothing will change.

Trump now says he wants to do “tax reform.” But he also said during the health care debate that he doesn’t care about the details and just wanted a bill passed. With tax reform, the devil is all in the details. If Trump allows the establishment to lead the way, he will be confronted with the same result every time. He needs to lead from the front, formulate specific plans, hire personnel that shares non-swamp views, and give a series of speeches using the bully pulpit to build the case for those policies. Anything short of this change will result in the same outcome — the swamp will win.

Trump must begin building the case for full repeal of Obamacare. Pin the blame on the Democrats and demonstrate how nobody will have any insurance left if Obamacare is not repealed. He should lay out a vision for what true market-based health care looks like. While he is doing that, there is a lot of other pressing issues to address.

Instead of codifying Obamacare with GOP votes, Trump should be working with people like Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) to pass some of our 20 immigration and homeland security ideas. He should be working with conservatives to enact his discretionary budget, codify his immigration order into the FY 2017 continuing resolution, and enact judicial reform. He should work with conservatives to abolish the dumb Middle East peace process and root out the Kerry people from his administration. When it comes to fulfilling his mandate to drain the swamp, Trump will find no better and more loyal soldiers than conservatives in the House.

As for conservatives in the grassroots, they need to think long and hard before they reflexively vote for lying politicians in 2018 just because they have an “R” next to their name. For starters, I hear someone very familiar to conservatives might be running in Mississippi. We need to relaunch the revolution, and that might be a great place to start.
