Joe Biden’s campaign is facing increased pressure to release the former vice president’s medical records after his eye filled with blood during a Wednesday night CNN climate event (which turned out to be a huge bust for ratings).
Biden had already been been fighting off criticism about his age due to his seemingly never-ending stream of flubs, gaffes, and screw-ups on the campaign trail, which he defended by saying that “details are irrelevant in terms of decision-making.” Wednesday night’s eye incident, however, has brought questions about the 76-year-old’s health to the forefront.
Biden’s most serious known health problem happened over 30 years ago, when he needed two surgeries for a pair of brain aneurysms in 1988.
“Anytime you have a 76-year-old running for president, particularly one that suffered two brain aneurysms, even though they were 33 years ago, [he] will get an additional level of scrutiny and discussion, as Biden has and is,” said Charlie Cook of the Cook Political Report in a Washington Times report.
Biden hasn’t released his medical records since 2008, when they revealed an irregular heartbeat.
