WTF MSM!? Another jihadi human interest story

WTF MSM!? Another jihadi human interest story

The jihadi next door …

“Was he following Al Qaeda or his heart?” … One of the most tiring tropes of mainstream media coverage of terrorist attacks is the inevitable profile of the jihadi next door. The MSM routinely tries to humanize insidious people. The jihadi who laughably failed in his attempt to blow up the Port Authority Bus Terminal subway station gets — as the Free Beacon’s Alex Griswold described it — puff-piece treatment in today’s New York Times. The jihadi is profiled as a good guy, because he went to help Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh before he unsuccessfully tried to murder Americans. You can’t make this stuff up. Who even thinks to do something like that?

Speaking of jihadis … Yesterday Politico released a bombshell investigation about how the Obama administration sabotaged efforts to go after Hezbollah’s cocaine shipments to the United States. If you thought that would be worthy of covering on the broadcast networks’ evening newscasts … you’d be wrong. NewsBusters outlines how this story, which shows actual collusion to obstruct justice, wasn’t seen as newsworthy by the networks. For eight years, the Obama administration abused the powers of government to advance an agenda, and the MSM ignored it and still is.

No banning … There were multiple news stories over the past week talking about how CDC leadership has banned certain words at the agency. The Left and Trump Derangement Syndrome types went crazy at the news. The problem is, it wasn’t true. PBS reports that the CDC director has said there are no banned words at the agency. Just another bit of fake news spread by the leftist media to incite the leftist base.

Historical context …

Faulty memory, or purposeful misleading? … In his daily email for CNN yesterday, Chris Cillizza took Donald Trump to task for quickly politicizing the Tacoma, Washington, Amtrak train derailment. That is actually one of Cillizza’s first real criticisms of the president in a while. Not only did Trump politicize and call for more infrastructure funding, the track that the train was running on was brand new and paid for with federal infrastructure money. It’s what Cillizza did next that was unhinged. He said that other presidents have not politicized tragedies immediately. That doesn’t pass the laugh test. President Obama did that routinely during his presidency and even bragged about it, especially when the issue was guns. Ignoring historical context and refusing to see both sides of an issue are why people don’t trust the supposedly non-partisan press.

Ignoring facts … If you spend any time on social media, you see the breathless back and forth between conservatives and liberals about Trump and Russia. There is a want, driven by Trump Derangement Syndrome, to believe anything bad about Trump by a significant portion of the Left. Even when damning facts come out that should be game-changing, they won’t budge. The reason? The mainstream media buries those facts, and a lot of these folks have never seen them. Case in point? It was uncovered that FBI officials involved with investigating both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton mused about an “insurance policy” if Trump were to win. The texts containing this exchange were not covered by the New York Times or the Washington Post. Townhall’s Guy Benson has the details.

Self-inflicted wounds … The always remarkable Jon Gabriel hit one out of the park in his column for The Arizona Republic, which was also published online at USA Today. Gabriel argues that the media can’t even see the damage they are doing to themselves by continually reporting fake Trump news. It’s a great read.

Together we can fight back …
