WTF MSM!? Laying the groundwork for a coup?

Coup? …

Stelter is giddy … Over the past few months, I’ve chronicled how CNN media critic/cheerleader Brian Stelter has been pushing the narrative that President Donald Trump is mentally unstable. This of course is being done to lay the groundwork for the use of the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. Now that others in the media have caught on, Stelter is positively giddy at the development. Over at NewsBusters, Nicholas Fondacaro outlined what happened on this weekend’s “Reliable Sources.” Stelter used the new Michael Wolff book to help buttress his point.

Not so fast … Stelter earned a rare rebuke from his CNN colleague Jake Tapper Saturday via Twitter. Stelter issued a correction regarding an RNC ad that he thought misquoted him regarding the Wolff book. Stelter, who has been using the book to push his Trump-is-a-mental-case narrative, said in the correction, “Big picture point: Wolff’s errors are sloppy, but many Trump experts say the book ‘rings true’ overall.” Tapper’s response: “Having many errors but ‘ringing true’ is not a journalistic standard.” It is pretty sad when the media critic needs to be reminded of “journalistic standards.”

Is this a coup? … The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway has a great explanation of what all this talk about Trump’s mental health really is: a coup attempt. She walks through the entire history of the narrative and the fantasy playing in the heads of folks like Stelter — that the 25th Amendment will be invoked and Trump will no longer be allowed to exercise the duties of the presidency. It is well worth the read.
