WTF MSM!? Trading accuracy for speed in Vegas

Last night,  a gunman shot into a crowd of people at a country music concert in Las Vegas. As of the time I’m writing this, reports say at least 50 people have been confirmed dead and over 400 are believed injured. It is a horrific act, and my thoughts and prayers are with the victims.

Because facts are not fully known, I’m not going to speculate. I’ll have more to say tomorrow as facts develop.

Facts often change …

Developing situations have developing facts … When atrocities like the Vegas shooting occur, the media tries to get out the facts of what happened. Yes, sometimes that coverage is tinged by ideology, but more often it is not. That said, it is important to remember that facts are developing. What authorities know about the events often changes, and thus what the media reports also changes. Remember that when looking at the news.

Beware fake news sites … I’m not talking about the MSM here; I’m taking about genuine fake news sites that are made to look like real news sites and have an agenda. As I mentioned on Twitter earlier this morning, please check multiple sources before sharing anything that seems like it pushes a narrative, and separate fact from opinion.

Good information on fully automatic gun laws … There is a lot of misleading information circulating on the laws regarding “machine gun” ownership. Some of my colleagues who are knowledgeable on gun laws have confirmed that this blog post, from three years ago, has an accurate reading of what the laws actually are. It is well worth the read.

Puerto Rico …

Media jump on Trump … Over the weekend, the media jumped on a series of tweets from President Donald Trump that hit back at the mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz criticized Trump in the media, and Trump responded that she was not taking enough responsibility herself. Brian Stelter called Trump’s remarks “insensitive at best, a racist dog whistle at worst.”

Conflicting claims … While the mainstream media was busy attacking Trump, other outlets reported that while appearing to be busy, the San Juan mayor was not attending relief coordination meetings. Guaynabo Mayor Angel Perez Otero said that Cruz was not attending meetings with FEMA and other federal officials, including the military. The Daily Wire reports that Cruz told ABC News that she was not attending those meetings.

Katrina flashbacks … When I first saw Trump’s tweets, I immediately flashed back to the aftermath of Katrina. The mainstream media made a huge, concerted effort to make George W. Bush the scapegoat for the ineptness of local and state officials, like now convicted criminal then-mayor Ray Nagin and Governor Kathleen Blanco. Imagine if Bush had fought back as hard as Trump and exposed them for ineptness.

Tell a friend …

I can’t fight back alone against the mainstream media. I need your help. There are two ways you can help. First, send your friends – and even your enemies – over to the WTF MSM!? email subscription page and get them sign up. Second, email me at reno@conservativereview.com with anything questionable you see the media do. Together, we can fight back.
