WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is urging the people of Iran to reject what she says is an expansion of the Iranian military's role and power.
Clinton says the United States is increasingly concerned about the rise of military power in Iran, the main U.S. adversary in the Middle East.
In an interview airing Sunday, Clinton says many inside Iran are worried too. And she tells ABC's "This Week" that she hopes Iranians find a way to head off the military drift.
She says that Iran was founded as a republic, and that she hopes responsible Iranians will find a way to "take hold of the apparatus of the state."
