Stupid Criminal Alert: UK Arsonist's Getaway Foiled by a Lamppost

D'oh!

A bumbling criminal was sentenced to eight years in prison Wednesday after he and an unidentified accomplice tried to fire bomb a pub in Crawley, West Sussex in 2008. Londoner Amir Ali threw two bricks, breaking the pub's window while the other tried to throw a fire bomb into the building as people slept inside the property.

The accomplice accidentally threw the firebomb at Ali and the flames died away quickly, but the pair panicked and tried to flee. The accomplice managed to get away, but Ali's getaway was stopped short by a lamppost:

In the CCTV footage of the incident, Ali can be seen limping off. It wasn't until he went to a nearby walk-in medical clinic to treat his head injury that police caught up to him.
