Ex-Evangelical Frank Schaeffer: Bachmann ‘Would Replace American Democracy With a Theocracy’

"...on a Christian level that would mirror something like modern-day Iran..."

Does Michele Bachmann want an American government that rules like Iran's harshly-imposed theocracy?

Back in July, The Blaze reported on ex-evangelical Frank Schaeffer's claims that Bachmann and those who share her faith perspective hate the United States "as it is," while loving and embracing the vision of "a fictional, Christian America." Now, Schaeffer is back with even harsher words about the GOP presidential contender.

In an interview with Pacifica Radio show Democracy Now on Wednesday, Schaeffer spoke with host, Amy Goodman. Among other less-than-flattering statements, he said:

Again, mainstream U.S. America doesn't understand that people like Michele Bachmann have signed onto Bronze Age mythology, including its misogyny, its homophobia, its racism, and all the rest of it, and that that is the religion they are part of...

Of course, everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, but Schaeffer takes the rhetoric to some bizarrely elevated levels. Rather than settling on the notion that Bachmann is "far right," he says that she's a part of the political fringe.

Like Michelle Goldberg, whose article earlier this week claimed that Bachmann and Perry are essentially seeking world domination, Schaeffer claims that Bachmann "would replace American democracy with a theocracy on a Christian level that would mirror something like modern-day Iran after it fell to the Ayatollah Khomeini."

Below, watch Schaeffer make these harsh statements, among others:
