We can guess that Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, R-Mich., is a little gloomy about his presidential bid not gaining much (or any) traction. But we know for sure he's feeling blue over the band R.E.M's Wednesday announcement that it's splitting up after 31 years.
"I'm bummed, that's too bad," the guitar-playing congressman told Yahoo News. "But all things must pass. They had a good run."
McCotter was apparently a big fan of the band. "I just downloaded all my stuff onto my iPod late last year during lame-duck," he said. "And it was one of the ones I found myself going back and listening to. You know, especially when they do the Velvet Underground covers."
Perhaps most devastating, McCotter never got to see the band perform live. "I never had the chance, I never had the chance."
Cheer up, Thad. It's no substitute for the real deal, but this one goes out to you:
