Watch as Four-Armed Robot Peels Grape

Human hands can only go so far when it comes to detailed surgeries. Small jobs with small incisions are being performed in more than 1,400 hospitals with this octopus-like robot.

Da Vinci from Intuitive Surgical in Sunnyvale, Calif., sports four arms that allow it to perform various functions during the surgery, while being controlled by an actual surgeon watching a monitor a few feet away.

This line of surgical robots, according to Intuitive Surgical, is mostly used with "keyhole" surgeries, those with small incisions and little scarring.

According to New Scientist, the U.S. Department of Defense is looking into similar robots, Trama Pods, to be used in field medical settings while injured soldiers wait to be evacuated.
