Texas Dems Holding a Holiday Party at Planned Parenthood?

"Democrats think it’s festive to get drunk at an abortion clinic?"

Several Texas Democratic women's groups are coming together to hold a holiday party next month -- at a Planned Parenthood.

Hosted by Texas Democratic State Reps. Jessica Farrar and Carol Alvarado, it's billed as a holiday party for "Democratic women...and the men who love them" at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast in Houston. The invitation tells guests planning to attend that they must RSVP "for security purposes."

Wine and soft drinks will be provided, but guests are encouraged to "BYOB for stronger cheer."

Alvarado's office declined to comment on the party beyond confirming she is one of the hosts. Jerry Greenspan, Alvarado's legislative director, said she would not be discussing the party or its location choice.

Farrar -- who in 2009 introduced a bill that would have made postpartum psychosis a legal defense for mothers who kill their infants -- did not return a request for comment.

The Harris County Democratic Party, whose logo is printed at the top of the invitation and which listed the event on its official calendar, declined to answer questions about the party or its location. A Harris County Democratic Party representative instead directed all inquiries to the River Oaks Area Democratic Women, listed as one of the event co-hosts. Efforts to contact the organization were unsuccessful.

Michael Berry, a conservative talk radio host on Houston's KTRH, said the idea of holding a holiday party at a Planned Parenthood is disgusting and an insult.

"Celebrating the 'holiday' of Christmas, which marks the birth of Christ, at an abortion clinic is an insult to Christians, and frankly, to every American," Berry said. "Democrats think it’s festive to get drunk at an abortion clinic? I guess this would be their 'choice'?"
