Obama's Bastardization Of American Icons Shows Disdain For States

As the front page has reported, the Obama campaign is currently selling a print of the American flag that replaces the field of stars with his own logo. As anyone who made it through elementary school knows, those stars each represent one of the states in the union. Now take a look at the official Obama twitter account said of this piece of swag:

A poster to say there are no red states or blue states, only the United States

Do I have to restate the obvious here? The American flag as it exists makes that statement. There are fifty white stars with nothing to distinguish Red State from Blue State. What this Obama flag does is ominously replace the emblem of fifty sovereign entities with a political logo.

Of course, this isn't the first time that the president has bastardized an American icon. Do we all remember his version of the Great Seal of the United States?

Similar to what he's done to the flag, Obama replaced the those elements in the Great Seal, the shield that bears 13 stripes and stars that represent the sovereign states, with his own personal logo.

It appears to me that we have a pattern emerging. The president clearly seems to think that, at least as far as American iconography goes, representing the states is extraneous. Not surprising considering he seems to believe sovereign states are merely vestigial organs of a republic that's being shoved aside for a "small 'd' democracy."
