New Romney Ad Hits President Obama's Leadership: 'Find a Way

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has released a new campaign ad highlighting President Obama's lack of leadership in Washington, from the skyrocketing national debt to his inability to work with Congress.

"Most Americans believe we're heading in the wrong direction.  Higher deficits, chronic unemployment, a president who admits he can't work with Congress," a voice says.  "But he says he's only had four years-- that's all Mitt Romney needed.  He turned Massachusetts around, cut unemployment, cut the deficit he inherited into a rainy day fund-- all with an 85% Democratic legislature."

The brief ad concludes: "Some can't live up to their promises.  Others find a way."

Democrats and left-leaning sites have already begun attacking the video, however.

"FORGETTING SOMETHING?" the Huffington Post asks in all capitalized letters in the title of its story.  They continue: "Romney Ad Blames ​Obama​ for Inability to Work With Congress...Ignores Years of GOP Obstructionism."

While it's true that Republicans made no secret about their disapproval of President Obama's agenda, "obstruction" implies they were actually able to "obstruct" his plans.  For the first two years he had a majority in both houses, and Republicans simply didn't have the votes to block Democratic legislation.

Regardless, Obama campaign spokeswoman Lis Smith said in an email: "If his latest ad is any indication, Mitt Romney’s Romnesia is only getting worse...But he is right on one point - he only needed four years as governor of Massachusetts."

She then proceeded to cite a number of statistics that have been proven false or "half true" by PolitiFact:

"That’s because in just one term, Romney drove the state down to 47th out of 50th in job creation, increased per capita debt to the largest in the nation, left his successor a $1 billion deficit, and pushed through a tax cut that overwhelmingly benefited 278 of the wealthiest residents while raising taxes and fees on everyone else...And he did all of this while refusing to work across the aisle. Mitt Romney wouldn’t make Washington better - he’d make it worse."
