Although the majority of Americans impacted by the daylight savings time change back to standard time this Sunday, Nov. 4 at 2 a.m. will opt to gain an extra hour of sleep, there are many other things one could do with their "fall back" of 60 minutes.
In fact, instead of sleeping longer, experts suggest you take this time to improve your snoozing habits. WSL-TV in Chicago reports sleep and neurology experts at Northwestern University saying you should go to sleep at the same time and not sleep later in order to maintain consistency.
Instead of gaining an extra hour of sleep, you could take the opportunity to do one of the following:
- Help someone suffering the effects of Hurricane Sandy. Not near the damage to help physically? Do a quick search online to see if a drive of some sort is going on in your area to help the effort or check out the work being done by Mercury One.
- Brush up on the positions of local and state candidates in the running. Although the presidential race might be at the forefront of your mind, there are other candidates in the running you might need to learn more about as well.
- Check your smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries.
- Put up your Christmas lights but refuse to light them until after Thanksgiving.
- Catch up on your Blaze news reading.
Residents of Hawaii, most of Arizona and some U.S. territories do not observe daylight-saving time and won't have to set back clocks.
