Boston-Area Cops Caught Egging Sergeant's Home

Five Newton, Mass. police officers have been disciplined for egging a sergeant's home last month, according to CBS Boston.

Police first responded to a report of someone egging the sergeant's home in Framingham, Mass. on Dec. 11. They stopped a car with two off-duty Newton cops inside. The officers admitted to egging the house but said it was only a prank.

“They threw eggs towards the driveway and the house and the car were hit,” Newton Police Chief Howard Mintz told WHDH-TV.

A short time later, a third off-duty officer flagged down police near the scene and said he had been with the other two officers. A police report said he appeared intoxicated and was given a ride home, according to CBS.

A subsequent investigation turned up a total of five officers involved in the egging. They have not been publicly identified and no charges have been filed.

“Their statements were that this was strictly a prank that had gone awry, that they had been friendly, and that there wasn’t any personal hard feelings,” Mintz told WHDH.

He told CBS all the officers apologized and power-washed the sergeant's home.

Still, Mintz said the sergeant and his family were frightened by the incident.

“It was immature, irresponsible, because they crossed the line. Anybody can be involved in a good-humored prank -- this was not a good-humored prank,” he said.
