White House Uses Children Again to Make Anti-Gun Argument: 'The Only Thing They Do Is Harm or Kill

One day after President Barack Obama called for sweeping gun legislation and signed 23 executive orders on gun policy, the White House published videos of four children asking the president to address gun violence on its YouTube channel.

Many critics will see the videos as an attempt to emotionalize the debate surrounding gun control. Each video shows a single child sitting in a chair in front of a blue velvet curtain as they read their letters to Obama.

Obama was also flanked by young children as he announced his new gun proposals and signed the previously mentioned executive orders on Wednesday.

The White House expressed outrage at a new NRA video that called Obama a "hypocrite" because he has armed guards for his daughters but doesn't want armed guards in schools. The administration called the video "repugnant and cowardly," arguing that it dragged children into a political issue.

In a video titled "A letter from Grant," Grant says "please don't let people own machine guns or other powerful guns like that."

"We should learn from what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School. I feel really bad about what happened."

In “A letter from Hinna,” Hinna, 8, asks President Obama to so something to "stop all of these terrible problems.

“Can we stop using guns? I think if they are no guns on the street, no one could get hurt. Bullets don’t have eyes. It can hurt anyone.”

Finally, in another video, “A letter from Julia,” Julia, 11, asks Obama to make it “very hard for people to buy" guns.

“The only thing they do is harm or kill,” Julia says in the video. “I know that laws have to be passed by Congress, but I beg you to try very hard to make guns not allowed.”
