"I thought she presented her hands to the ball very well also."
A Hooters girl acting as a ball girl during Sunday's exhibition baseball game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Tampa Bay Rays in Clearwater, Fla., got red-faced not after eating a plate of hot wings, but rather after making a pretty big mistake during the game.
Tampa’s designated hitter Shelley Duncan hit a ground ball during the 6th inning that hopped over third base and then into foul territory in left field. It was ruled a fair ball.
However, the Hooters girl, known only right now as Priscilla, obviously thought it was foul: She scooped it up and handed it to an excited fan.
It wasn’t until she returned to her seat that she realized what she had done, covering her face with her mitt. Duncan was awarded second base for her error:
Unsurprisingly, Rays manager Joe Maddon wasn’t all that upset with her mistake.
“She moved her feet well,” Maddon said, according to The Tampa Bay Times. “I thought she presented her hands to the ball very well also. The overall package was very, um, efficient.”
The Rays went on to clobber the Phillies 15-7.
