Commentator Ann Coulter hit back at Democratic gun control proposals in an appearance on Fox News' "Hannity" last night, claiming that, rather than curbing violence, they will result in "more dead kids."
Both Coulter and host Sean Hannity advanced the notion that the proposals being advocated by the Obama administration and Democrats to address mass shootings will do little to actually curb the problem.
"Their gun laws are going to hurt the defense of the innocent," Coulter said of the legislative plans.
She later added that the proposals will "lead to more parents weeping over their children," as they will curb Americans' abilities to protect themselves. Hannity agreed, noting that he believes some in the government are openly exploiting the families who have so tragically lost their children to unimaginable violence.
"It's naked exploitation of dead children and grieving families, it's play acting, it's feel-goodism and I've got to tell you something -- the whole thing is grotesque," the host responded. "Not one of their proposals would have prevented what happened."
And later in the interview, Coulter clarified her take on how Republicans view the administration's stance on guns. Doubling down on what she said earlier, the commentator outlined the conservative position on firearms control.
"Our position is 'your proposals are going to lead to more dead kids, our proposals will stop dead kids,'" she said.
Mediaite has more about about Coulter and Hannity's on-air discussion:
Coulter called for more extensive concealed carry and emphasized the need to focus on mental health issues. She accused Democrats of abandoning any action on the latter in order to score political points with policy that, according to Coulter, would “hurt the defense of the innocent.” Hannity slammed the Democrats for “naked exploitation of dead children and grieving families.”Coulter took offense at background checks specifically because they unfairly target women who have to wait longer periods of times to get guns to protect themselves. Hannity questioned why, if gun control was such a big priority for Obama, he didn’t do anything about it in his entire first term. Coulter pointed to the poll finding that over 90 percent of Americans support background checks, calling it a “fake poll” and accusing the pollsters of lying to people.
