Prosecutor in Gosnell trial appeals to PETA

With tears in their eyes, the team responsible for prosecuting abortionist Kermit Gosnell to the full extent of the law delivered their final impassioned plea for justice today.   Assistant prosecutor Ed Cameron pleaded for jurors to convict Gosnell on four counts of first degree murder for severing the spinal cords of babies born alive during illegal late-term abortions.

To garner sympathy for the killed infants, Cameron left no emotional stone unturned, even appealing to the dog-lover in all of us:

Cameron gave and agonizing account of how the newborn babies must have felt as they struggled to be born, finally entering the light only to be stabbed by Gosnell and doomed to slowly suffocate to death. ...

Cameron related an incident when he once had a dog that got sick and had to be put down. The dog was given two injections; the first to put it to sleep and the second to kill it.

“My dog was treated better than [Gosnell] treated women and children,” Cameron said.

It's such a sad comparison, but still poignant.  We have many laws guarding against the inhumane treatment of animals, yet abortion of human beings is somehow ok?  How would a group like PETA react if we were talking about puppies and kittens and not babies?

This trial has been absolutely gut-wrenching and emotionally overwhelming.  I'm confident justice will prevail, but the lack of media attention may mean that countless Americans are never exposed to the atrocities of the abortion industry.

In fact, a new poll out today from the National Right to Life Committee finds a startling amount of ignorance on the issue of abortion among Americans.

“The polling reflects the results of Planned Parenthood’s campaign to publicly minimize and obfuscate its involvement with abortion.” said David N. O’Steen, Ph.D., National Right to Life Executive Director.

O’Steen told LifeNews that his organization’s poll found 88% of respondents said that they were familiar with Planned Parenthood, with 41% saying that they were very familiar and 47% saying that they were somewhat familiar.  Forty percent said they knew someone who had received services at a Planned Parenthood.  Although 63% said that they had a favorable opinion of Planned Parenthood, including 38% of those who identified themselves as pro-life, 55% of those polled did not know that Planned Parenthood performs abortions.

The poll found 50 percent of pro-life respondents did not know that Planned Parenthood performs abortions. Of the 45% who knew that Planned Parenthood performs abortions, the majority greatly underestimated the number of abortions Planned Parenthood performs annually.

The gruesome details of the Gosnell trial hidden by the mainstream media are the uncomfortable facts behind abortion.  How can we ever expect anything to change without educating the public with the truth?
