Marines stall on releasing Beyoncé-related emails to avoid Drudge Report attention

Back in January The Drudge Report ran four separate headlines related to singer Beyoncé's lip-syncing of the national anthem, accompanied by the U.S. Marine Band, at President Obama's second inauguration. It was attention the Marines apparently could have done without.

Bloomberg News reports that at the time, it submitted a series of Freedom of Information Act requests to the Marine Corps. to obtain emails that may have shed light on lip-sync-gate.

The emails, finally obtained by Bloomberg nearly three months later, showed pretty much nothing of interest; except that the Marines handling the requests intentionally dragged their feet in responding. An email by one read: "Just need everyone to stay hunkered down for another 24 hours. We have a bona-fide breaking news piece tomorrow that will knock this [Beyoncé story] off of Drudge.”
