Newspaper editor: NRA members are the 'real terrorists

In a town where 12 people died after a crazed maniac set off tear gas grenades and shot into a cinema audience with multiple firearms, the editor of the local newspaper is insisting that it's the National Rifle Association which poses a real threat to America's safety.

David Perry, editor of Colorado's Aurora Sentinel, recently published this editorial in the local paper:

I have seen the light. After all these years, I now agree that it’s fruitless to give the benefit of the doubt to people who are so obviously corrupt, so clearly malevolent, so bent on hurting innocent people for their own sick gain.

No more due process in the clear-cut case of insidious terrorism. When the facts are so clearly before all Americans, for the whole world to see, why bother with this country’s odious and cumbersome system of justice? Send the guilty monsters directly to Guantanamo Bay for all eternity and let them rot in their own mental squalor.

No, no, no. Not the wannabe sick kid who blew up the Boston marathon or the freak that’s mailing ricin-laced letters to the president. I’m talking about the real terrorist threat here in America: the National Rifle Association.

Let's get this straight: mass murderers are now merely considered "wannabe sick" kids?  I imagine Perry would be singing a very different tune if the Boston Marathon bombers had been found with NRA membership cards in their wallets.

Perry's anti-NRA rant came days after the U.S. Senate voted down Sen. Dianne Feinstein's gun control bill.  But instead of addressing the senators directly, Perry blamed the vote on the NRA, the left's natural scapegoat:

By using the weapon of choice for all terrorist organizations, extortion, the NRA has forced the action of about 45 ineffectual U.S. senators, a clear act of terrorism and treason. And Wayne LaPierre and his arrogant cronies are laughing about it. They’re laughing at 9 out of 10 of you and your insistence that Congress do something reasonable to stop the insanity in this country.

"Extortion"?  Since when is funding politicians who share your core beliefs a form of "extortion"?  Again, Perry would be singing a different tune if the bill had passed.  My guess would be that he wouldn't be screaming about the injustice behind the Brady Campaign's "extortion" for votes.

What gets me is how self-righteous liberals ignore that the First and Second Amendments are both in the Bill of Rights for a reason.  Instead, the left dismisses constitutional provisions which don't fit their agenda and insist the rest of us do the same.

Um, no thanks.
