NJ Mayor Up for Re-Election Has New Story About 2004 Nude Photo With 'Filthy' Detail

The major of a New Jersey city had some explaining to do when a photo was taken of him naked on his porch several years ago before his being voted into office in a special election. Now, the same man is up for re-election and talk of the photo surfaced again with more details.

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy before the 2004 special election told the New York Times that October he had no idea how he ended up naked on his front porch stoop after having imbibed eight beers earlier in the night.

Now, according to New Jersey Star-Tribune columnist Tom Moran, Healy has added a bit more color to the story:

Now he says three young women woke him by banging trash cans outside his house, so he rose from bed, wrapped a towel around himself, and went to investigate.

“Three Hispanic girls, young kids,” he says. “So I go out on the porch and they pulled the towel off me. Now I start laughing, and then they started doing other stuff. I said, ‘I’m old enough to be your grandfather.’ ”

What other stuff?

“It was filthy,” he says. “I chased them away, and I just sat down.”

Healy is now getting flack for these latest comments from some Latino publications and his opponent, Councilman Steven Fulop.

"It's another embarrassment in a statewide newspaper courtesy of Jerry Healy and it's sad that 10 years after the fact, he now decides to blame Hispanic women for his personal problems," Fulop said, according to the Jersey Journal.

Nidia Lopez running for reelection in Ward C on Fulop's ticket said she thinks the mayor "needs psychological help."

“When I ran in 2009, I asked him if that was really him on the stoop, and he said, ‘I don’t know, baby. I was so drunk I don’t remember.’ Those were his exact words to me ... There is absolutely something wrong with this picture," Lopez said, according to the Jersey Journal.

In a separate article the Jersey Journal reported Healy's spokesperson Joshua Henne declining to comment further but saying that voters are not longer interested in the events leading up to the photo so many years ago.

In addition to this incident, Healy was convicted a few years afterward for resisting arrest after a run-in with police outside a Jersey Shore bar owned by his sister.

“Listen, I like to eat, drink, sing, dance and laugh,” Moran reported Healy saying. “And I make no apologies for any of the above.”

The election for mayor in Jersey City will take place May 14.
