MSNBC Host Apologizes for Mistake With Noted Segregationist's Party Affiliation

MSNBC made what host Chris Hayes calls a "stupid, inexcusable and historically illiterate mistake" on Tuesday night.

But let's back up for a second and set the stage.

Former Alabama Governor George Wallace was a lot of things: A racist, a bigot, a staunch defender of segregation … a Republican.

Wait, no. Wallace was not a Republican. He was most definitely a Democrat. And he was one of the most notorious segregationists of the 20th century.

But you wouldn’t know that if you watched MSNBC’s “All in With Chris Hayes” yesterday. According to MSNBC, Wallace was a Republican:

The inaccuracy was later caught by a sharped-eyed viewer, prompting Hayes to issue an apology for the mistake.

"It's a stupid, inexcusable and historically illiterate mistake. We'll correct it on-air tonight,” Hayes said, according to a spokeswoman who spoke with TheBlaze. "I should have caught it and apologize to viewers for not catching it.
