Knife-Wielding Robber Gets Surprise of His Life When Texas Mom Decides to Fight Back

"...he said I better figure out a way to get it, or my kids were going to get hurt."

One mother found herself in an extremely difficult and dangerous position when she and her two sons were robbed at knife-point. Just as Dorothy Baker, a mother of six, was about to drive home from CVS recently with her two sons -- ages two and five -- a man popped up from the third row of her mini-van and demanded money.

But the robber likely didn't expect what happened next.

Baker, who was understandably stunned to find a man inside of the family vehicle, had to think quickly on her feet. She began by asking how much the man, identified by police as Ismael Martinez, 53, needed.

"So I asked him how much he needed and he said $200," she told WFAA-TV. "And I told him I didn’t have that kind of cash, I had about $20 in my account, and he said I better figure out a way to get it, or my kids were going to get hurt."

And that's when the situation intensified.

With the vehicle apparently moving and in the midst of a highly-contentious situation, Baker didn't have much time to think. She covertly dialed 911 on her cell phone, but when Martinez realized she was doing so, he took a leap into the front seat. At that point, the situation could have gone very badly for the mother and her children -- but it didn't.

Rather than cowering, Baker fought her attacker and successfully ripped the knife out of his hand, WFAA-TV reports. And that's not all. She pushed him over to the passenger seat and punched him in the face -- and while the car was still moving. Then, miraculously, she demanded that he get out of the vehicle and he complied, running away from the scene.

But while that could have been the end of her plight, Baker realized she had just released a man who could go and harm someone else, so she, again, took action and pursued Martinez.

"He kind of ‘zagged’ and I turned, intending to clip him in the side or something to get him to stop -- and I ended up running completely over him," the mother explained.

Despite being run over by Baker, Martinez is listed in stable condition. While the woman is being praised for her actions, she claims that she was merely fulfilling her role as a mother in protecting her two children.
