Police Investigate Libertarian Activist After Gun Stunt in Front of U.S. Capitol

"We will not be silent, we will not obey, we will not allow our government to destroy our humanity. We are, the final, American, revolution."

A video of libertarian activist and radio host Adam Kokesh loading a shotgun in the middle of Freedom Plaza in Washington, D.C., has led police to open an investigation.

In the video, uploaded to YouTube on Thursday, Kokesh dramatically loads four shells into a shotgun while he speaks with the Capitol building directly behind him.

"We will not be silent, we will not obey, we will not allow our government to destroy our humanity. We are, the final, American, revolution. See you next Independence Day," Kokesh says while he loads the gun.

Washington Metropolitan Police and the U.S. Park Police said in a statement Thursday they are aware of the video and are in the process of "determining the authenticity of the video."

"Kokesh had been planning a march into Washington of 1,000 gun-toting activists for July 4, but the march was ultimately canceled. Washington Metropolitan Police had pledged to arrest marchers who planned to openly carry rifles into the city in violation of District law," Politico notes.

Washington, D.C., has some of the strongest anti-gun laws in the nation.

Kokesh has come under fire, even among some libertarians and conservatives, for his sometimes outlandish antics.

Conservative firebrand Michelle Malkin has previously referred to him an "anti-war smear merchant in 'Republican' clothing" and "nutball-turned-gun rights organizer" in previous blog posts. Malkin and other have also long documented Kokesh's alleged mental instability.
