A 15-year-old who stepped in to stop a school yard fight may have been criticized by fellow classmates who stood by filming it on their cellphones, but others are praising the bold move.
KOVR-TV reports Asianya Jones saying people "called me a hero sarcastically and asked why I stopped such a good fight," but the teen noted, "it’s just natural instinct—seeing someone helpless made me want to help them—watching people pull out their phones just to get a few minutes of a fight was really disappointing.”

The fight at Lathrop High School this past spring was described as "far more than the average schoolyard fight,” according to San Joaquin Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Watson. Jones told KOVR that one of the girls involved as on the ground being punched while up to 30 other students stood around filming it and cheered.
Although Jones told the local news outlet she doesn't consider herself a hero, law enforcement gave her a plaque at city hall for taking a stand.

“It was just a selfless act. I just did what any typical person should’ve done," Jones said.
