Disturbing Video Surfaces Claiming to Show Husband Pleading with His Suicidal Wife to Get off 8th Story Ledge as She Plunges to Her Death

"Shocked the Lebanese society."

A new video posted online has the Lebanese public reeling as it claims to depict a man hysterically pleading with his wife to get back from the ledge of their eighth floor apartment before she ignores his entreaties and pushes herself off the building. The husband is said to be the on who filmed the 46 second clip even as he was begging his wife to turn back on her suicide attempt.

TheBlaze cannot confirm the video which Lebanon’s Naharnet says has “shocked the Lebanese society.” The Kuwait-based Al Rai Media is calling the video which was posted on YouTube “reality TV.”

Naharnet posted this undated photo of Amena Ismail.

Naharnet reports that on Saturday, Kifah Fairouz Ahmed begged his wife Amena Ismail in the moments before she jumped to her death, “Your mother does not deserve this … you can forget about me if you're not happy with me.”

The husband cries and repeatedly pleads, saying over and over “habibti,” that is, “my darling.”

Naharnet quoted other Lebanese media reports which said that husband Kifah is in the diamond business and that the couple had just returned from a trip to Belgium only days before the wife’s suicide off of their apartment building located in “the upper-class Beirut district of Ramlet al-Bayda.”

LBCI television reports that the video, which was collected as evidence, was subsequently leaked by a policeman and that it was uploaded to YouTube by a civil society activist named Louna Safwan.

“Al-Jadeed television quoted a source close to Kifah's family as saying that the couple had a good, harmonious relationship and that they were married around six months ago,” Naharnet reports, adding that the husband was released on bail Tuesday, allowing him to go to his wife’s funeral. No other information was reported as to whether he is being considered a suspect.

One version of the video was posted with a caption suggesting that the husband was trying to legally protect himself.

Many who posted comments on Naharnet’s website asked why the husband was filming the incident in the first place.

One wrote: “Freaky.. Why would he film her rather than try to stop her jumping over...”

Another commenter posted this: “bizare story. when i first heard about it, i thought he was taping her from the street level. with regard to those who claim that he should have approached her, do not realize that in the majority of suicides, the worst thing to do is approach the individual as that will make them jump. but it is still outrageous that his number one concern was acquitting himself. maybe he should have been on the phone calling authorities or her mom to convince her to sit tight. but who are we to judge.”

Another commenter wrote, “Of course approaching her straightforward would be risky. That's why I said somehow find a way to approach her, like distracting with something and sneaking closer until he can grab her, pull her back, get her inside, and guard her until help arrives.”

“I'm scratching my head on this one," said another. "Who in their right mind would video tape ones' wife suicide jumping from the 8th floor?”

A commenter with the handle “Sloane” alleges to have met the husband and to have spoken with a “very close relative of the husband who is in daily contact with him” and provides a different perspective on how the man happened to be filming at that precise moment.

Sloane writes in part:

Please people, before judging or jumping to any conclusion,i would like to clarify some facts here.

First of all,the question of how he happened to be filming is because it's a new apartment(as you can see the lack of glass on the balcony where she sat before jumping) that he had just bought and he was over with his late wife overseeing the renovation while filming around and taking pictures when he noticed his wife had gone out.

TheBlaze cannot verify the claims, though it does appear in the video that there is no protective glass barrier on the balcony.

Here is the video posted on YouTube by Al Jadeed TV. Warning, it may be disturbing to some:
