The Foundation for Individual Rights in Higher Education would like to introduce you to Dave. A "born philosopher" and "intellectual rebel," Dave grew up to be a college professor, a position he thought would allow him to help young college students challenge conventional wisdom and explore new ideas.

But, as it turns out, times have changed since the days when Dave was in college and students were encouraged to speak their minds. Instead, college campuses today are governed by "speech codes" designed to limit speech deemed offensive and punish expression. Some groups, including FIRE, fought back against universities' unfair rules, but now free speech advocates like Professor Dave are facing a new & more powerful foe: the federal government.
