Hillary Clinton: Gov't shutdown 'wouldn't be the worst thing for Democrats

The potential 2016 presidential contender seems happy to welcome a political fight with the GOP, just as her husband did during his presidency.

Via WaPo:

“It wouldn’t be the worst thing for Democrats if they tried to shut the government down,” said Clinton, a former secretary of state and potential 2016 Democratic presidential candidate. “We’ve seen that movie before and it didn’t work out so well for those so-called obstructionists.”

Clinton was referencing the political harm for Republicans in the mid-1990s when they forced a shutdown during husband Bill Clinton’s presidency.

“If they want to try to shut the government down, that’s on their head, that’s their responsibility,” she added.

Meanwhile over at the Daily Beast, Stuart Stevens argues that this week's "shutdown" drama won't even be a blip on the radar come 2014, let alone 2016:

Little of this week’s melodrama is likely to affect the quality of life of most Americans. As Sen. Rand Paul observed, Obamacare is overwhelmingly likely to continue. The debt ceiling will be raised. Some politicians will have a good week and some a bad one, but most Americans just don’t care.
