Scarborough: Republicans who took 'stupid pill' will 'cave in' on government shutdown
October 16, 2013
Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" and former Republican congressman, predicted Wednesday that it's just a matter of days before some Republicans in the House and Senate who "took a stupid pill" give in on the government shutdown.
"So, some people in my party took a stupid pill and came up with a horrible strategy," Scarborough said. "We all said they were going to lose, didn't we? We all said it. [Conservative columnist] Charles Krauthammer said it. [Wisconsin Gov.] Scott Walker said it. We all said it. ... So guess what they're going to do before the government defaults? They're going to cave in and they're going to look horrible."
Scarborough said House Speaker John Boehner will "panic like any responsible adult would" and allow a vote on the government debt ceiling just before the deadline at the end of October.
Scarborough has been a vocal critic of some Republicans' (especially Texas Sen. Ted Cruz) strategy to defund "Obamacare" by way of keeping the government shut down.
