No, You Get on the Ground': The Unwelcome Words One Robber Heard From a Pistol-Packing Pastor

"I just told him this is out of love."

When Pastor Carl Sanders entered a Dollar General store in Evansville, Ind., he only wanted to quench his thirst with a Gatorade. Instead, he witnessed a man attempting to rob a store clerk with what appeared to be a gun wrapped in plastic.

While it would later be discovered that the "weapon" the robber was holding was nothing but a plastic spoon, the pistol that Pastor Sanders carries is very much real.

"He was coming at me saying, 'get on the ground,'" Sanders recalled, adding that he couldn't make out what the man was holding. "That's when I pulled my weapon and say, 'No, you get on the ground.'"

He then ordered the suspect to put his face on the ground and towered over him until the police arrived.

"I just told him this is out of love," the pastor told WFIE-TV.

Police eventually arrived and arrested the robber, identified as Jermaine Marshall.

"He didn't deserve to be hurt. I wanted him to know you can't do this," Sanders told the news station.

The pastor said he plans on visiting Marshall sometime soon, likely to try and help him get his life on the right track.
