Is the Story of Detroit the 'Scariest' Thing You'll Hear on Halloween? Watch This Vid and Find Out...

"The rest of America is going down the exact same path - Detroit is just the first one to get there."

Glenn Beck told his audience on Thursday that the "scariest" thing he could do on Halloween would be to "tell the truth" about progressivism -- using the city of Detroit as a chilling warning for the rest of the country.

"We know what is coming because we've already been here," Beck remarked. "We know what it looks like when it's been fully implemented."

Beck asked his audience to share the story on Facebook and Twitter and wherever else they could, to show their friends and neighbors "the truth of where we're headed."

"[Detroit] started out with something uniquely American - innovation, great ideas," Beck says at the beginning of the clip. "The automobile industry revolutionized the way the whole world did manufacturing."

He described Detroit in its day as the economic and cultural envy of the world, adding that it "represented everything people wanted to believe about the American dream."

"Today, after 100 years, Detroit is a dilapidated pigsty, to tell you the truth," he continued. "It's rotting, rat-infested, riddled with drugs, crime, poverty, and corruption that has been eating away at it for a long time."

Beck read a number of shocking statistics, from what percentage of crimes the police solve a year, to the fact that over half the city is considered to be "functionally illiterate."  That means, Beck added, that many can only read simple phrases like "my Obamaphone" and "yes, we can."

"It is the most impoverished city in the United States," Beck said, "and trust me - it will get worse."

But how did Detroit go from such a prosperous city to what it is today?

"The answer is really simple - it's just progressivism," Beck remarked. "Corrupt unions, reckless government.  You might think, 'Well, it's just Detroit,' but it's not. The rest of America is going down the exact same path - Detroit is just the first one to get there."

Beck covered issues from healthcare to "government, not the market...creating phony jobs [and] phony wealth" in Detroit and the country at large. He also noted that while Detroit was once the 4th largest in the United States, a staggering 63% of its population has fled.

"You see, it only works if everybody is a communist country, otherwise the jobs move," Beck said. "When that happened, that meant that all the taxpayers left. They left Detroit - but the progressives still wanted to keep their extravagant welfare state. They had chased away all the job creators, all of the taxpayers, and there was no one to support it, and the streets quickly grew riddled with crime."

"Violent gangs ruled the city. Prostitution was rampant. Drugs were everywhere. It was a moral vacuum," Beck concluded.  "The same type of cultural rot that, unfortunately, our country is suffering from today."
