A man killed himself Sunday at a mall in China after he decided he couldn't deal with his girlfriend's "incessant" Christmas shopping, Gawker reported.
The couple had apparently been shopping for a little more than five hours when the woman insisted on doing one more sweep of the Golden Eagle International Shopping Center in Xuzhou, China. That was apparently more than the 38-year-old Tao Hsiao could bear. He repeatedly asked that they leave and things became heated between the two.
"He told her she already had enough shoes, more shoes that she could wear in a lifetime and it was pointless buying any more,” one eyewitness said, according to The Daily Mail. "She started shouting at him accusing him of being a skinflint and of spoiling Christmas, it was a really heated argument."
Hsiao responded to the reportedly heated argument by throwing the shopping bags over the seventh floor railing and then hurling himself, eventually landing on a cosmetics section below.
A bystander snapped a photo of the part of the mall where Hsiao jumped to his death:
No one was hurt by Hsiao’s fall. He was killed immediately upon impact, a spokesman for the mall said.
"He actually landed on one of the stalls below and then fell to the floor so although the store was damaged it meant he didn't hit anybody," the spokesman said. 'This is a tragic incident, but this time of year can be very stressful for many people."
