Seconds Before Fatal Crash, She Posted on Facebook About Something That Made Her Happy

“The Facebook text happened at 8:33. We got the call on the wreck at 8:34."

A North Carolina driver posted on Facebook about the "Happy" song moments before she was involved in a fatal crash Thursday.

According to investigators, 32-year-old Courtney Ann Sanford's post read: "The Happy Song makes me so HAPPY."

Seconds later, her car crossed the median and struck a truck head-on.

“The Facebook text happened at 8:33. We got the call on the wreck at 8:34,” Lt. Chris Weisner, with the High Point Police Department, told WGHP-TV.

“In a matter of seconds, a life was over just so she could notify some friends that she was happy,” he added.

The officer said the accident serves as a reminder that drivers need to pay attention at all times while on the road.

“As sad as it is, it is a grim reminder for everyone… you just have to pay attention while you are in the car,” he said.

Editor's Note: This story has been amended to reflect that Sanford was 32, not 23.
