Senator Boxer flexes her 'street cred,' references 'singing group' 50 Cent
April 30, 2014
No, Senator, you are not "right about that."
Today, the U.S. Senate bill to raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 stalled. If that bill had passed and became law, the increase to $10.10 an hour would not happen overnight, but incrementally over a 2 1/2 year period.
Tuesday, Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) was speaking about her party's proposal when she tried (and failed) to use a pop culture reference to solidify her argument. "Suppose the other side had taken that attitude, don't raise it." The 73-year-old Boxer continued, "Well, it would still be, I guess, a buck an hour. 50 cents if you were kids. Today, 50 Cent is a singing group. Am I right about that?"
No, Senator, you are not "right about that."
50 Cent is a rapper, a solo act, and a very successful one. In fact, Forbes magazine puts the wealth of Mr. Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson at $140 million.
