Famed Christian Evangelist: 'You Have to Be Deaf, Dumb and Blind' to Believe in Young Earth Creationism

Televangelist Pat Robertson has made it no secret that he fervently disagrees with young earth creationists -- those who believe the Earth is only 6,000 years old. But he upped the ante against the paradigm this week, using tough words to describe those who reject claims that the planet is actually much older.

"The truth is, you have to be deaf, dumb and blind to think that this Earth that we live in only has 6,000 years of existence, it just doesn’t, I’m sorry," he said on Tuesday's "700 Club."

Robertson went on to cite geological records, claiming that everything on the planet couldn't possibly have come about in such a short span of time.

"I think what we're looking at is that there was a point of time after the Earth was created, after these things were done, after the universe was formed, after the asteroid hit the Earth and wiped out the dinosaurs," Robertson continued. "After that, there was a point of time that there was a particular human being that God touched -- and that was the human that started the race that we are now part of."

He said that denying the "clear record" makes Christians look silly.

His statements were made in response to a viewer who wrote into his show to ask about the ongoing debate about the Earth's age.

This is not the first time Robertson has discussed his views on creationism. His statements come after months of debate following a public clash between creationism Ken Ham, who embraces young earth creationism, and "science guy" Bill Nye.
