Obama Says He'll Work Without Congress

In his weekly address Saturday, president Barack Obama spoke about the struggles of hard-working Americans.

Then he said he'd bypass Congress whenever he could.

"Republicans in Congress keep blocking or voting down almost every serious idea to strengthen the middle class," Obama said. "This year alone, they’ve said no to raising the minimum wage, no to fair pay, no to student loan reform, no to extending unemployment insurance."

Obama seemed to be endorsing a "my way or the highway" approach to governing as he promised to work around the legislative branch.

"This obstruction keeps the system rigged for those at the top, and rigged against the middle class," Obama said. "And as long as they insist on doing it, I’ll keep taking actions on my own."

Obama's promise in his weekly address echoes a tweet sent out by the White House Twitter account Friday, quoting the president as saying, "We can't afford to wait for Congress...and that's why I'm going ahead without them when I can."

Many Twitter users noted potential problems with the president's approach.
