If This Story Is True, It Might Be the Most Absurd Way a Man Has Ever Tried to Get Out of Marrying
August 19, 2014
"I am sorry to say that Tucker is dead.”
Contender for No. 1 on the list of terrible ways to break off an engagement: Call up your bride-to-be and tell her you died.
British woman Alex Lanchestertold the U.K. Mirror that she'd had an Aug. 15 wedding date set with American Tucker Blandford — before he went and lazily faked his own death.
"He was such a gentleman," Lanchester told the Mirror. "He showered me with jewelry. We would go out for a posh dinner on the 10th of every month to celebrate the day we got together."

The pair courted long-distance after meeting at the University of Connecticut in 2012, she said, and she never suspected he was having second thoughts.
She said she'd already spent £600 — roughly $1,000 — on wedding invitations and booking a photographer when she received a phone call: “Alex, this is Tucker’s dad. There’s no easy way to say this ... I am sorry to say that Tucker is dead.”
But Blanford wasn't dead, as Lanchester found out as soon as she called his mother to offer her condolences.
In fact, it had apparently been Blandford himself calling, pretending to be his father, announcing his own death.
Lanchester said she eventually connected with Blandford and he admitted to faking the whole dying thing.
“All I ever did was love him,” Lanchester told the Mirror. “After this I’m not sure I can trust a man ever again.”
In a video posted during what would have been her honeymoon, Lanchester swore up and down that she was better off without her American beau.
TheBlaze was not able to independently verify the tale, as it appeared Tuesday that Lanchester's social media accounts on Twitter and Instagram have been largely deleted.
