The Horrifying Moment Military Jumper's Parachute System Fails

A new video shows the terrifying moment a paratrooper is left dangling from the back end of a military plane after the system that was designed to deploy his parachute failed.

According to MSN New Zealand, the exercise was a static line jump, where each paratrooper is fixed to a cable that automatically opens their parachutes as they jump. At least, that's how it works in theory.

The Mexican military trainee attempted to jump from the plane with the rest of his unit, but ended up being caught in at the end of his parachute cord, twisting nearly out of control.

At least three other jumpers flew past their dangling colleague, perhaps missing his plight. In the background, you can hear one member yelling for the jumpers to stop, and likely trying to sign the flight crew of the emergency.

But this trooper is shown being pulled behind the plane at altitude for several more seconds, spinning sickeningly, before the camera fades to black.

According to MSN, there are unconfirmed reports that the soldier is recovering in hospital, but the outcome could have been much worse. Last year, a Thai paratrooper was killed in a similar static line jump training exercise mishap.
